We were a tad later than last year visiting this event, but I didn't want to miss out, so we managed to catch it on it's second last weekend. We weren't disappointed.
This years theme, Toytopia and once again were awestruck with the detail and the enormity of these sand sculptures. Fortunately we haven't had the rain we experienced last year where many of the sculptures were destroyed and had to be re-built. Some of this years sculptures had some damage but not enough to justify bringing the artists back in to fix up.
There isn't really a lot to say about these sculptures - you just have to see them so here you go.
Toytopia Toy Box
Land of Make Believe
Weird Science
Bath Time
School for Dolls
There's a Bear Under There
Looney Tunes
Barbie
Toy Wall
Toy Wall
Storybook Land
Toy Wall
Toy Wall
Vintage Toys
Snow Globe Safari
Fantasy Playground
Journey 2 The Mysterious Island
Board Game Mayhem - Mr Monopoly
Mr and the little man - just to get an idea of how big the sculptures were...
Again the attention to detail is absolutely amazing! Seems such a shame that a bulldozer has destroyed all this and stored the sand away for next years event. Wonder what it'll be?
It was quite a hot day with beautiful clear blue skies and fortunately they do have tents up where you can grab a small bite and a drink under some much needed shade. The kids were entertained and the little man had a go at spinning plates.
The exhibition itself isn't really that big and it doesn't take long to go around and have a look. The time is taken by looking really closely and taking in all the details...we go once around with normal camera lenses and then again with the zoom lens to get those higher detailed shots.
The Frankston pier and beach is just across the way, so we took a walk along the pier, let the kids splash around in the ice cold bay then treated ourselves to fish and chips on the grass. We were also joined by the ever fattening and hungry seagulls waiting for a morsel to fall...none did...but they are getting too damn cheeky and less scared of humans and while I'm not afraid of birds, they were getting just a little too close!
