Christmas Tea Party

Christmas Cake

I love entertaining. Problem is I don’t get to do it as often as I like. We live in a house that isn’t really designed for entertaining. Major bummer. So when I decided to have a Christmas Tea Party this year, neighbour Lisa volunteered to host it at her place. Cool!

Deciding on a red and white theme, I scoured the tinternet looking for ideas. While I believe that presentation is important with these things, everything I saw online had masses amounts of stuff. By stuff I mean more than the 3 plain white plates I posses – or is that 2? – both red and white wine glasses, and any number of “fillers”. They all look gorgeous. We came over with a China dinner service that has a floral design which is so not me (long story), and would better suit a country cottage setting rather than the modern look I generally go for.

Place setting

So my red & white themed Christmas Tea Party table is looking a bit scarce compared to what I found, but until I build up a decent entertainers collection, I have to go with what I’ve got. Fortunately Lisa entertains and was kind enough to supply the white plates I was after.

Mince Pies

Though not entirely a “completed” look, I was happy with how it turned out with the little I did have. It was a gorgeous day, we sat outside on the covered deck, chatted like only a bunch of women can, and filled up on a selection of bite sized party food, mince pies, Christmas cake and freshly baked (that morning by moi) scones with whipped cream and strawberries.

Scones

It was so nice to get together with other mum’s and have proper conversations without having to keep an eye on a bunch of 5-year olds or a quick chat at drop-off and pick-up times…and while it’s still early in December, I think this week was the best time to host before everyone gets too busy with school concerts, prep transitions, and the hustle and bustle of getting their Christmas’s sorted.

Table C

And not a single cup of tea was in sight. We never did get to have the champagne though :-0

Candy canes

Then we all had to rush to pick up the kids from kinder by 1:30pm!

Bling!

Plenty left over, so if anyone is in need of a mince pie, Christmas cake, and freshly baked scones please come over and help me save me from myself before it’s all gone!

Tout suite!
