Now a garbage truck isn't all that exciting I know, but it's the way the garbage truck operates that is fascinating.
We all know how it's usually done. You have a team of guys doing specific jobs. One drives, a couple gets the bins ready, hook them onto the back and they are hoisted up and emptied. Then they get dumped on the side of the road and all the neighbours have to decide which one is their's. Fortunately we had a number on ours so it was easy enough. Anyway...
Not here.
All you have is the driver. So how does he do it?
Watch.
Here he comes...
Did you get that? Lets take a closer look.
Up...
empty...
and down.
And that's how it's done - one man and his garbage truck.
If they're extra really good, they can make sure the lid is closed when they set the bin back down. This was the garden waste bin, the household waste was gone by 7am. I was still in bed.
And missed the Lunar Eclipse.
Naturally he saw me taking pics so stopped for a chat. He is South African like me, except he's been here since he was 7.

haha, this is funny. this is the way they do it where i come from in the US. here in sydney we live in a condo building with heaps of rubbish and recycling bins along the street. the garbage truck comes around 6 am and wakes EVERYONE up. so loud!
ReplyDeletemaybe it's because of sydney or where i live in sydney, but people i always seem to stop and speak aren't actually from sydney, or even australia. do you find the same in melbourne?
You're hilarious...fancy taking photos of a garbage truck...although I must admit I am amazed that here in England you don't have the same system. The thing that really astounds me is the fact that a young man comes and MANUALLY sorts through the recyclables before the truck gets here! Also, if houses had letterboxes at the gate the postie wouldn't have to walk all the way to people's front doors! Robx
